When crossing the border from South Africa to Zimbabwe at Beitbridge be very careful. First you pass the South African Border. Get a few stamps for yourself and the car. No trouble so far. But driving between the two borders and getting closer to the Zimbabwe border you'll see many people waving with papers trying to stop you. Under no circumstances follow their instructions. They are not customs officers!!! Just drive trough until you are at the roofed part and park your car there. It will take you a while before you can continue. Leave a Comment

Like most developing countries Zimbabwe has a fair deal is improving to do and the mayority of the people are living in poor conditions with very little hoop of improvement. Like most developing countries Zimbabwe has a long way to go. For the most part people live in poor conditions with very little hoop of improvement. Crime in the city is not so bad because armed guards are on every street corner. Walking around Harare is safer than in big cities in Europe. Off the beaten track however, be very careful, violent crime aggravated by drugs is not uncommon. Choose your friends wisely and remember you are on their turf.

Don't let anyone carry your bags at bus stations even if they claim to be taxi drivers or from the bus company. Chances are they are just entrepreneurs who will lead you to the taxi and then demand a large fee for carrying your bags. Leave a Comment

Zimbabwe is Big 5 country. The wild animals are controlled in game reserves hosting elephant, black rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo. There is however, one uncontrollable species on the loose that poses a great threat to the sub-continent. It is known for very selfish behavour and will even kill it's own kind to stay in power, as it's greatest fear is a truth commission. Africa can do without this type. Socialism is a good economic system for Africa if applied correctly, but unfortunately most leaders are the biggest capitalists. Leave a Comment

Be carefull not to be bitten by a Tsee Tsee Fly. Because then you feel really tired. No, No, this a joke, but I must admit that travelling through these hot and dry countries is sometimes tiring, as you got to get up very early in the morning (4 à 5AM) and you have long travelling days. I am the one in front with the white t-shirt, the one on the right is Peter, my sleeping buddy from Gouda - Holland (we shared the tent for 4 weeks) now he is also a VT-member (member name : Peter_RTW) and in the back is Tom (VT-member : tompt). What you think, aren't we like three sleeping beauties? Leave a Comment

We were there at the height of the rainy season. The Zambezi had lots of water and the wind was blowing pretty good into us, resulting in what seemed like a walk through a downpour. Bring a rain poncho and some shoes you don't mind getting soaked. Sorry about the quality of this photo. That blob of stuff on the right is the mist. Leave a Comment

BLEND BLEND BLEND!! Don’t flaunt your nationality, especially if you’re an American, by wearing t-shirts with team names, etc. Don't wear expensive looking items or carry expensive looking backpacks. Don’t leave maps and guidebooks sitting on the seats in your car; keep everything in the trunk. Don’t say you’re a photographer, missionary, or with any organization-When asked-just say you’re on a pleasure trip. Don't EVER take pictures of government buildings! Don't take pictures of people unless you ask. Don't walk or drive on the street where President's Maguabe lives, after 6pm, there are soldiers that will shoot at will. By blending and being respectful, you'll meet lots of locals that will share much about themselves over a game of cards. (Clinic nurses & Stan)
