 | Delhi India Gate Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 38 | | I only pass by rickshaw near the Indian Gate, I did it at day and night, and in both moments you have a beautiful view. I wish I had have time to walk around cause it was always full of live. At weekends nights I saw it specially full of people sitting at the green grass with the family lots and lots of little ice cream shops. Next time I will search the time to spend there a time sitting with all that people in the grass, with the beautiful view of the Indian Gate illuminated. Leave a Comment Address: Indian Gate |
Even India has its Arch of Triumph... and some boast that it's as nice as the Arche de Triomphe in Paris. The long promenade leading there - they say - is like the Champs Elisées. OK, maybe they forgot about the shops - but by contrast they don't have the congested traffic of this are in Paris. In my opinion both arches are quite ugly-looking. What I liked about this arch is the fact that it's surrounded by green grass lawns, trees and artificial ponds. People gather there for picnics and children go for a refreshing swim nearby - this is my memory of the Arch... not the construction itself, but the life that goes on around it Leave a Comment Address: India Gate |
Guess I got not to explain you what does India Gate mean, it should be already pretty clear, or just check the pic ):- The monument is pretty huge and nice, but if you do not have the time to visit all the other monuments in Delhi, I would suggest you to forget about India Gate, as the other are definitely nicer! The sandstone canopy facing the India Gate used to hold a statue of King George V which was put there in 1936. The statue was removed and placed in Coronation Park probably because that was the site where George, who was proclaimed King Emperor of India in 1911. The canopy which was also designed by Lutyens now stands empty. Leave a Comment Address: India Gate, Rajpath, New Delhi |

Under the canopy of the India gate is black marble memorial which has a rifle standing in the centre with a soldiers helmet placed on the top. An eternal flame (Amar Jawan Jyoti – which means the flame of the immortal warrior), burns 24 hours a day and was lit to honour those soldiers killed in the Indo-Pak war in 1971.
