The mountainous area around Ciwidey, South of Bandung offers us an entrancing day out. The town of Ciwidey itself is only 15 km from the center of Bandung. From here a typical tour of the area might start by visiting local tradesman to watch them plying their time-honored crafts. We can catch a horse and cart for a bumpy but fun ride out to visit a community of ironsmiths – the last such community in West Java Next we can spend some time in the fields helping rice farmer plough the fields with his buffalo. After that, visit one of the bamboo weaver workshops and see how the cheap and practical walls of houses are made around here. These attractively-designed bamboo creations, known in Sundanese as Bilik, can be seen holding up houses all around the area. Leave a Comment Address: South Bandung

Bandung is the city with the biggest concentrations of vintage art deco architecture left standing, making west java's capital a treasure trove for architecture buffs. Architects of the Amsterdam School began to make their mark on many of the new commercial, institutional and residential villas of the 1920s and 1930s, some of the most influential being Van der Mey, De Klerk, Luthman and Kramer. Picking up on eastern cultural influences, these architects had a large impact on the directions of Indonesian architecture. Leave a Comment Address: Jl. Asia Afrika and around

Lembang is a Dutch colonial resort town located just north of Bandung, the hill town of Lembang is renowned for its pleasant climate and abundance of flowers, fruits and vegetables. It is also home to several beautiful restaurants, near the flower market and some chic hotels. The town sits on the flank of Tangkuban Perahu (upside-down boat) volcano. In Tangkuban Perahu Nature Reserve, we can see the active crater and follow a number of nature trails. Also in the vicinity of Lembang, are the beautiful Maribaya and Cimahi waterfalls and the Ciater hot springs complecs, for rejuvenating body and mind. Leave a Comment Address: North Bandung

Tangkuban Parahu is a volcano, (not active) 25 kilometre north of Bandung direction of Lembang. This is Bandung's most famous natural attraction. Breathtaking views. This location was suggested by my fiance to see before we left Bandung. Must have car to arrive to this location. You can also take walks with a local guide on walking trails that go to the hot spring of the volcano. This walk takes about 30 to 40 minutes from the volcano and goes through the forest. Kampung Daun is located up higher from Bandung downtown. It's an eating place designed as a 'kampung' or small village beside a stream. You can choose to sit in one of the booths for 'lesehan' where you sit down without chairs (more or less like Japanese traditional way), or sit on chairs, while enjoying the cool air and the sound of the streaming water. It's most beautiful when you arrive there late in the afternoon before the sun set. The hanging lanterns and candles on the ground will soon be lit when the dusk comes. It's beautiful. Bandung is an important city in Indonesian history. In the old days important things happen there. Now you can still see the old city with the old buildings from the Dutch colonial time. Some of them are Jalan Asia Afrika where the Asia-Africa Conference took place, and Jalan Braga that has a romantic atmosphere where there is an old cafe that I imagine long ago was the hangout area - the old cafe is still open. You can have a meal or just have a scoop of old-fashioned ice cream. It's good. Leave a Comment

Bandung is further known as “Textile City”, it being home to a plethora of textile industries from home- to industrial sized, and accounting for the production of about 60% of Indonesia’s total garment industry. Jalan Cihampelas, commonly known as “Jeans Street”, is the center of textile retailing and here garments and textiles can be picked up for bargain prices. Of course here we can find many factory outlets, such as The Heritage and Summits (may be the biggest in South East Asia). Leave a Comment Address: Along Jalan CihampelasDirections: All around the city. Jalan Cihampelas for jeans.
