 | Auckland Skytower Complex and Casino Reviews | 1 - 10 of 66 | | When going up Skytower, ask for a Sun&Stars ticket. It's mentioned on the website, but not on the admissions board inside. It means that you have a daytime and a nighttime entry on one ticket. (for the price of 1 1/2 entry). You don't have to do both entries on the same day; the ticket just gets stamped. I quite liked to see Auckland in daylight, but thought it more special at night. I went up just before the sun set; so besides great skies, you also slowly see more streetlights switched on. I stayed until it was completely dark. Magical!

The Sky Tower is a great place to start your sightseeing of Auckland. Ride the lift to the top of the tower and get amazing 360 degree views of Auckland and the surrounding areas. This costs NZ$15. For an extra $3, you can go up to an even higher level (its worth it). The coolest part (or scariest, depending on who you talk to) of the observation levels is the glass floor which lets you see Auckland below your feet. The Sky Tower is part of the Sky City complex, which also holds a 24-hour casino, hotel, live theatre, and restaurants, including a revolving restaurant above the observation levels. Leave a Comment

At 328 metres high, the Sky Tower is the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere with sensational 360 degree views around and below of Auckland. You can easily spend hours exploring the different observation levels and when you need a break there's the Sky Lounge Restaurant where you can enjoy the wonderful views comfortably seated with a nice cuppa. For the intrepid, there's the vertigo climb and the 192m Sky jump, which is by far New Zealand's highest bungy jump. Admission prices are as follows - Adults Main Observation & Sky Deck $21.00 Main Observation $18.00 Child 5-14 years (Main Observation) $8.00 under 5 years FREE Family 2 Adults + 2 Children $44.00 Additional Child $6.80 Students & Backpackers $15.00 Leave a Comment

The view that you get from the top of the BNZ Tower is fabulous – second only to Sky City. There is glass all the way around with boards in selected areas, explaining the sights you are looking at and prominent buildings and places of interest. Unfortunately some of the information is pretty worn out looking and difficult to read in places but still the panorama of they city is stunning. Leave a Comment

Sky City is the newest convention centre and they have the most technically advanced facilities in New Zealand. They have plenty of exhibition space and they can cater for a meeting room for 6, to an auditorium for 700 or a conference for 1500, a banquet for 1000 to a cocktail party for thousands. They say they have everything and really all you need to do is cross the sky bridge into the heart of Sky City and you will have ‘everything else’. Leave a Comment

NZ$15 gets you to the Viewing Level of the Skytower, and a stunning 360 degree vista awaits you. It highlights the point that Auckland appears to be almost completely surrounded by water, and distant headlands can be seen as well, as amazingly, the west coast and the Tasman Sea. Picture is looking east - city and port, middle foreground is town of Devonport and distance is the volcanic plug of Rangitoto. Leave a Comment

Even if you do not want to plunge down from the Sky Tower - 192 metres legs first, attached to a wire, a kind of safe, slow and smooth parachuting - or climb up a ladder inside the tower (Vertigo Climb), a visit to this tower is a must for every Auckland visitor. Not only because with 328 metres it is the Southern Hemisphere's highest tower. It is more because of the fantastic views over the city with its many volcanic cones, harbours and sourrounding islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The tower is open Sun-Thur 8.30am-11pm, and Fri/Sat from 8.30am until midnight. It is a great experience at day and nighttime. A drink in the Sky Lounge, located at the obersevation Level, can be rather romantic (open from 9am, Sun-Thur until 10pm, Fri/Sat until 11pm). If you have buffet lunch (12noon-2pm) or dinner (5.30pm-7pm and from 7.30pm) at the Observatory Restaurant the trip up the tower is included in the price of $39.50 for lunch and $57 for dinner. The tower is part of Skycity which features hotels, casinos, several restaurants, cafés and bars. This includes dining by star chef Peter Gordon at the five-star Grand Hotel. You can also get very interesting views OF the tower if you walk around in the streets around Skycity, old and modernist buildings happily joint together. The only thing I do not like about Skycity/Sky Tower is their website. Rather chaotic. Sky City is said to be New Zealand`s most popular entertainment and leisure destination and aptly named `A city within a City`. Sky Tower is at 328 metres, the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere (taller than the Eiffel Tower). You can take the glass fronted elevator to an observation deck (travelling at thrilling 5 metres per second). The views of Auckland city and surrounds is breathtaking whether you see it by day or night. I think the best time is just as the light is about to fade and you watch the city transform in a fairyland. Within Sky City you will find the Casino which never closes, restaurants and bars. The tallest tower in the southern hemisphere (4 metres higher than Sydney - apparently the brief to the architects stipulated it must be taller. Rivalry? Maybe a touch - especially when the most popular T-shirt seemed to be 'I support 2 teams - New Zealand and anyone playing Australia') and you can see it from virtually anywhere.328 metres up and 40 seconds in a lift - that's some going. Fabulous views from the top - and you can walk up a further 70 metres or so (internally) onto an external platform, or, if you've got a spare NZ$150, you can actually Sky Jump. Full equipment provided, a cross between a parachute dive and a bungee jump - attached to a steel rope that runs down the outside of the tower. Leave a Comment
