Promoted as the most complete Roman amphitheater, that may only apply to its external walls. The interior suffered the common transformations of most Croatian monuments, and shows almost nothing of its original structure. Smaller than his brother, in Rome, it is a magnificent building, deserving the quick visit that everybody does. Leave a Comment

Originally from the 6th century, escaping from demolitions and bombs, this small chapel, standing beside a small garden that occupies the area of a quarter erased in WW2, was built in Ravenna's style. It seems that it had some rich mosaics that were moved to the Archaeological Museum of Istria. Leave a Comment

Side passages from ulica Sergijvaca are all quiet but each has a personality of its own. In some, like this one, people living in these houses have invaded the street which is their summer living-room, in the same way that they do in remote cities of central Istria ! Leave a Comment

The City Palace (Town-hall) was built in the Middle Ages on the north side of the Forum, in the space where the central temple and the temple of Diana once stood. In the time of the free city commune, it was the symbol of communal autonomy, while later ut was the seat of the Venetian proveditor. It has been the seat of the city administration from 19th century until today. It was altered on several occasions, and various levels can be observed; from the Romanesque and all the way to Baroque. It recived the greatest part of the present-day dimensions with a thorough reconstruction in 1296. Leave a Comment Address: Forum - Narodni trg

Sight Amphitheater: 7.30-21.00 15KN students 8KN. From the bus station head west Itarska for 100 m. This is one of the great Roman ruins still intact today, and perhaps Croatia's most popular tourist attraction after Dubrovnik. Built when the Romans settled here around 1AD, this Amphitheater (like the colleseum) housed gladiator contests and other events. Today, top music artists such as Sting and U2 play inside of it. Italian tourists love to see what their forefathers had made. This is a must see. Highly Rec The Forum:10.00-13.00, 14.00-18.00 6KN. From the bus station, head east on Istarska for 200 m, then head south on Sergievaca which runs into the Forum The Arch of the Sergians built in 29BC is the entrance to Sergijevaca, a tiny scobble stoned street full of ice cream shops and souveneir shops. At night time many painters and performers appear and entertain the tourists and the young locals. This leads to the Forum, a small square thats holds the Temple of Augustus, a pillared type structure built in 2BC. Leave a Comment

The triumphal Sergio's arch was built shortly before Christ's birth in Corinthian style. Today, it gives expression to the central square, and shopping streets. Leave a Comment
