Fresh seafood is a good bet as are Shish Kebabs (meat grilled on skewers and served in a pitta bread). Cypriots from whatever the side of the island swear by their kebabs. The Greeks call Shish Kebab Souvlaki.
As an aside I always Souvlaki an interesting word. The Greek word for a chunk of meat is Souvla. Souvlaki is simply the diminutive of this word so literally it means small chunks of meat. However what I find interesting in all of this is the famous battle in the Crimean War at Souvla Bay. Is this purely coincidence, or was the bay named after the chunks of meat left by the soldiers who were cut apart in the gunfire? I have no idea. Anyhow I digress.
Hopefully this hasn't put you off your food! Look around, most of the restaurants have a great view, and Cyprus has a very long summer time, and so eating outdoors is relevant most of the year.

This has been one of the most successful, popular restaurants in Kyrenia for many years. Famous for metzes and grilled food - try to get a table not too close to the grill! Wonderfully tasty lamb. Service, presentation and quality were excellent, with an atmosphere to match.
Things may have changed but value could not have been bettered.

I met the owners of this restaurant at Golden Beach, Karpazia. They are both really nice, she is German and him Turkish Cypriot. He is a king of backgamon, last time we played I actually managed to score 1 point against him, wow!
They have a good variety of food on the menu and the staff are very friendly. The place is named after the great veranda overlooking the sea and dinners or lunch are greatly enjoyed with the waves crashing near you. During the winter everything is inside and they have an area with an open fire and the rest with big bay windows to enjoy the view. I was fortunate to experience both seasons and they each have their advantages :o)
It can be a romantic place or for groups as well.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Cyprus...

This restaurant is located directly next to La Famiglia, in a nicely restored old carob warehouse. You may sit in front of the restaurant outside, or on its roof area, overlooking all the area.
The restaurant has a large menu with international dishes, also including some Asian food and also escargots (snails). Quality of food is suprisingly good, but the service could sometimes be a little bit more friendly. Together with the La Famiglia, this restaurant provides the best standard in the harbour area. They bring you mezes untill you say" no more" about 200 different mezes. Then you get the main dishes. Absolutely fantastic and very cheap.You need to book , the place is always full.

This restaurant is located within the fomer Turkish quarter of Kyrenia, in an old house with a lovely garden attached. During winter you enjoy dining in a very cosy atmosphere with a large log fire, during summer you will sit outside in the lovely and romantic garden, nicely decorated with many local objects and with a wonderful illumination.
The prices of the dishes are clearly above average, but it's really worth it! There is no other restaurant in North Cyprus serving such artistic and tastful creations, a dining experience beyond any average! In addition to the standard menu they always offer some outstanding specials, in accordance with availability of ingredients. Wide range of drinks, and friendly staff! Places to eat are general average, since Cyprus (both South and North) still serves mostly average and under-average English tourists and retired expats, who are more after bargains than quality. If you want to have a nice dinner in the harbour, go to La Famiglia, which is located next to Cafe 34 on the bow of the walkway. It is closed from end of October to beginning of May, since it has no in-door facilities. The chef Halil is very ambitious and normally well coordinates his staff. It is the only place in the harbour with a decent restaurant feeling, with white table cloths, number of glasses in the right order on the table, a good selection of wines (no French wines though), and good dishes. The place belongs to the Rocks Hotel & Casino on the other end of Kyrenia city. La Famiglia serves Italian and European cuisine, they also have the best pizzas in Kyrenia. We loved this restaurant as it was right on the sea front, waves lapping. There are a load of peanuts for you to eat and a hole in the table to dump the shells. The service is quick and it is very family friendly, staff are great.
My husband had the lamb chops and he got loads of them, too much to be honest and I had the Spaghetti Bolognese, one night and the curry another night. Another place to go to especially for fish and seafood mezes is the Set Restaurant, located on the little set in the harbour. Good fish generally, and nice Turkish and Cypriot mezes; overlooking all the harbour scene. Amarettois a simple place with honest unpretentious food - not fantastic but not bad either. As I found food in Cyprus to be quite bad in general, this simple eatery deserves my thums up. it is located inside Girne's old bazar.
I believe we had a veggie pie (tell them if you don't want fries) a very some excellent freshly squeezed orange juice.
