Popular Shopping | Other Shopping Tips | All Tips (8) City Plaza is a reasonably large shopping mall on Makarios Avenue in the South side of Nicosia.
It has clothing, photographic, confectionary, gift and numerous other shops inside, and it is pleasantly air conditioned, so it can be nice to pop inside to cool down as you are walking down Makarios Avenue.
Anyone familiar with City Plaza and Makarios Avenue will realise it is quite an achievement to get a photo with no cars in the picture! This road is the most likely part to hit traffic jams in the whole of Cyprus! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: City Plaza, Makarios Avenue

There are a couple of Kiosks (Peripteron in Greek) in Eleftheria Square. They sell pretty up to date newspapers and magazines from around the world allowing you to catch up with what is going on back home.
They also sell sweets and drinks and postcards etc. Nothing special, but a good place to buy something as you stroll through Nicosia. They are open crazy hours, and are very busy with the locals too!

Makarios Avenue is the main shopping street in Nicosia, There are many cafes where people seat around a frape or other drink and watch other people go by and a lot of posing. I personally don't like going there and try to avoid it. If I really have to go I entertain myself by trying to sopt the biggest fashion victim... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The old town of Nicosia actually has a tourist part where you can find all the usual tourist souvenirs shops. Most of them will bargain a bit if you are subtle. Otherwise it does not make sense to buy clothes etc as everything is a lot more expensive. The locals will actually go shopping when in mainland Europe or catch a flight to Syria. Laiki gitonia which means popular neighbourhood is like an external shopping centre with small pedestrian streets and traditional archicture. Ledra street is a beutiful shopping area within the old city of Nicosia, mostly kept for pedestrians unfortunately physically divided by barbed wire and sandbags since 1963. However a prospective visitor can visit www.e-Ledra.com for un uninterrupted strolling through its streets. Prior to his visit, a visitor can find information on the shops, on both sides of the barrier, restaurants, hotels, places of interests as well as transportation information and how to cross from south to north and vice versa. One can even shop online.

There are all shorts of shops in Ledra Street and surounding area ranging from antiques and books to shoes, women clothing and jewelry. You will find large department stores with the latest in cosmetics, clothes and music.
