Popular Restaurants | Other Restaurants Tips | All Tips (2) My friend Faize took me to this great Spanish-Italian fusion restaurant, which is located very centrally across the square from St. Nicolas Church.
It was too cold to sit outside, but during the summer you can sit on the sidewalk under the night sky and drink in the cathedral bathed in soft-yellow light against the purple evening sky.
We sat inside, as it was a cold and it rained on Saturday. Unlike many places in the Mediterranean, which are poorly insulated and therefore not that warm in the winter, El Sabor Latino was warm despite its cool, modern intererior. I didn't bother to take a picture inside as it is not that special. Quite spartan as a matter of fact. However, the portions are huge and they have a good selection of Spanish and Italian wines. Mine was a nice, smooth Spanish Rioja thank you very much.
However, I am definately going back in the summertime, when we can sit outside and soak in the atmosphere of the square. This place appealed to me because it was cold outside and I was looking for someplace warm and inviting.
It is very small, with a limited menu. There were lots of Turkish men eating lunch there. The main item on the menu were doner kebabs. I was reasonably assured given the small menu, the number of people, and the size of the restaurant that the food would be inexpensive and fresh due to the turn-over.
The doner kebabs were very fresh and tasty. They were served with fresh, levened pita bread, rice, tsatsiki (yogurt sauce with cucumber) and salad. They did not serve any alcoholic beverages, so I settled for a can of soda. The price of the meal was 6.50 new Turkish lira or about $5.
This was a quick lunch. Good food. Nice atmosphere. And authentic local experience. Sufficient to suffice under the circumstances.
