The security forces are very sensitive about photography in the area, so use common sense.
The people's anxiety and emotions still run quite high and are very strong about the underlying reasons and possible solutions to the conflict. Therefore, as tourist you should be sensitive to the conflict and not try to side with one side or the other without all the facts and in their proper historical context, despite what your hosts from either side of Nicosia may tell you.
Also, you should not trespass into areas controlled by the military. The buffer zone is best viewed discretely from above in one of the high buildings on either side.
