I was lucky enough to get a lift from Helsinki to Porvoo by a famous Finnish VT member. Porvoo is located at a distance of about 50 km from Helsinki. A trip by car along the Eastern motorway E18 takes about 45 minutes. On the way you will even come across a street sign which shows the distance to St. Petersburg in Russia. The easiest way to get to Porvoo from Helsinki is a bus and it takes only 55 minutes! The prices should be less than 10 euros - one way. But do take a look at the other tip as well, especially if you are coming at summer time. One way of coming to Porvoo is by a boat, which leaves from Helsinki as well. Leave a Comment

During the summer months there are also boat lines sailing from Helsinki to Porvoo. They are offering not only transportation but also sightseeing and meals on board. They will cost you more then the bus but it might be excellent experience. Leave a Comment

I usually visit here by car, as it is very short drive on the very well kept motorway. But there is very good bus connection and there are buses all day long from Helsinki. In this picture is the central bus station, very small one. Leave a Comment

Porvoo is best explored on foot. The main tourist sights can be found in the Old Town and at the embankment of the river Porvoo. Just make sure, to wear proper shoes for small cobbled alleys and streets. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

This Rail car Dm7 commutes at summertime and only on Saturdays between Helsinki and Porvoo. It is possible to combine a day trip to Porvoo by boat-train cruise. The train departs Helsinki normally from platform number 7 at 10.16am at the central station arriving to Porvoo at 11.55. One way price for Helsinki-Porvoo is 12 euros and return is 20 euros for an adult. It is also possible to go by train and return by boat to/from Helsinki. Or you can easily take a bus back to Helsinki as well, they go almost every half an hour. The route goes thru Finnish countryside. This is a beautiful way of seeing Finnish scenery! Take a boat cruise one way (to/from Porvoo) by by boat and the other by train. The archipelago from Helsinki to Porvoo is really beautiful! Leave a Comment
