 | Pecs Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 29 | | Popular Restaurants | Other Restaurants Tips | All Tips (29) While exploring Pecs, and Hungary in general, we always enjoyed stopping for frozen yougurt. We were looking at the flower motif on this building's roof when we spotted a DQ sign. Being in a funny mood, I told dad that we should get two scoops (see the bust on the building) (haha). We had a good laugh.
Frozen Yogurt was delicous in Hungary. Leave a Comment |
The cellar is furnished with old chairs, tables, sofas collected from lofts. The jazz, funky music diffuses cafe atmosphere. The speciality of the restaurant is the hatted bean soup with trotters. A pancake is on the plate, which means the hat and it is getting stewed with the flavour of the bean soup. Delicious! When in Pecs, you must visit this famous pastry shop (cukraszda) and try some of the local sweets. Hungarian pastries are nothing like North American donuts. They have taste and flavor without having tons of sugar in them. They also look very yummy. The ice cream is equally good and does not contain various chemicals and preservatives like our ice creams.

The restaurant "Arizona ranch" is situated in the Kiraly utza (sreet), right in the heart of the city and the main promenade area.
It is steak house which offers fresh meat on a daily basis. A piece of good beefsteak, green salate and cold beer is all you need after exploring the city of Pecs. Unique atmosphere, like being in an old attic, with all the furniture your grandma left there. (With comrade Rákosi checking the grain on the wall :) ). On the evenings great music, nice place to sit down and talk, and not too pricy either.
Kalapos bableves - literally bean soup with a hat - and it is. You get a nice pot of bean soup with pork, with a hat made of dough on the top of it. Great thanks to Poho for noticing me on several mistakes... now it is bean soup instead of bone. Well, not a restaurant, just a gourmet tip; Try the local water melons sold at the markets! In Hungarian they are called 'Görög Dinnye'. And the local peaches, 'Barack'. Delicious! Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
The atmosphere is almost medieval with large -not too comfortable, but good looking - wooden banks, and tables. Sometimes the waiters are not aboslutely polite, but the food will make you forgive.
No personal favorite. They serve man sized meals, great tastes. Stick to Hungarian foods, they are hot, and spicy, but as Dóm serves them are especially great. While there are many good [and interesting] restaurants and cafes in Pecs, the most spectacular in terms of location and architectural design has to be Bagolyvar on the outskirts of Pecs. The food is good, but the building and the view over Pecs are spectacular. Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
You really must try the goulash soup inthe Palatinus Hotel in the city centre. It is served with bread and piping hot and DELICIOUS!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
If you're in Pécs, don't miss the favourite restaurants of university people, like Rókus (near the BTK - faculty of humanities), or Flekken 1 or 2. There're a little bit stranges for foreign people (from W-Europe or N-America) but very familiars and extremely cheaps. (f.ex.: a complete lunch costs approx. 1$30 So what else?). If you wanna find some 'really' hungarian foods, you can find everywhere in the city, but if you are interested by delicious hungarian specialities, don't miss the Kalamáris Vendéglő or the Aranykacsa Restaurant.
