In a cellar, eclectic decor and seating, cozy, friendly, perfect for a romantic dinner. Food is cheap, portions gut-busting. Get a half-order (fel-adag) or you'll be needing a doggie bag, not that you'd give food this good to a mangy pup... Traditional Hungarian food, unlike a lot of the places on the main tourist streets, heavy and rich. I've lived in Pecs since February 2008, and every single time I go out to eat, or have to take someone out for dinner, it's here. No exceptions, enough said!
Oh boy, ask for this: Harcsa porkolt kapros turos csuszaval. You'll get: Boneless catfish chunks stewed in paprika, and ladled over boiled egg noodles covered with sour cream and cottage cheese and dill.... best ever! Their Mezes Csirke (honey chicken) is always tender and delicious too. This is more or less the same idea as the previous restaurant. You first have to go down in a kind of cellar, this time with plenty of pictures from Hungary hanging on the wall. This looked like a pleasant place. Even better when the waitress (quickly) realised we were foreigner, she called a man able to speak english. He was quite friendly and we found him quite eager to have us order his Stella Artois
Since we were quite happy to drink a belgian beer again, we agreed
We are still wondering what was the problem with this beer !! It was everything but a Stella. Apparently another couple had te same issue and simply refused to drink it
This place was recommended by our book guide, this should probably be different when the students are there
this time it was almost empty and maybe we simply had a bad luck with the beer !!
About the food, it was better than the beer, I ordered a Ť gipsy pork ť not bad but youd better like the garlic before ordering such a dish, this is indeed a slice of pork literally covered by garlic with a piece of lard

With a view over the main square, stylish seating and tasty dishes, this is a good stop for anyone peckish in Pecs. The pizza is good, the coffee is great and the prices are very reasonable. I think the only downside is a style issue: the name, printed in an 80s sci-fi font, reads almost like "coffin". On a quieter square, just off the main Szechenyi square, the Elefantos offers quality Italian food. The exterior seating offers a view of Jokai square, with its peaceful channels of rushing water, playing children and no traffic to spoil the experience. The food and service is very good. The Hotel Palatinus is among the best in the city, and so is its restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is sumptious, with grand arches and a polished marble floor, and outside you can enjoy people watching on the traffic free Kiraly street. The meals are delicate, but beautifully presented and very tasty. Like the rest of Hungary, it isn't even that expensive. Dishes have a Hungarian bent, but are not necessarily heavy and meat obsessed. Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average

This restaurant is on a pedestrian street, has a busy cafe atmosphere, and serves nice salads, and other dishes. Nice coffee, ice cream and milkshakes too.
I had a salad with grilled chicken on it which was excellent. I chose a starter from the menu which was enormous ... so beware !! It was more for two people - french fries with cheese. There was cheese on the fries, and fries on the cheese... delicious, but two big for one person as a starter....maybe even as a meal.
