 | Pecs Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 15 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (15) We travelled in Hungary by rail between cities. We took a train from Siofok on the southern shore of Lake Balaton to Pecs. Buy you rail pass before you get to Hungary! The deal we got was not available to the locals. Our pass was for Hungary only and was good for 14 travel days in a month. It was very inexpensive. But, the porters had never seen this type of pass and had to consult with a supervisor each time we rode. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

This is a general warning that applies to most of Hungary, but especially in Budapest. In Hungary it is very easy to be ripped off by (private) cab drivers. Be very vigilant and do not seat into the car until you are sure what the cost will be at your destination. Pecs taxis are not as bad as the ones in Budapest, but still be alert and use public transportation if possible. In Budapest I recommend Zona Taxi and in Pecs I recommend Volan Taxi as a choice of taxi, when no public transport is available. Leave a Comment

When traveling to Hungary I never use public transportation, therefore my tip is reffered to driving car. The town of Pecs is off the main route A7, however the distances within Hungary are relativly short, and all places are reachable from Budapest in less than four hours. The motorways (marked M) are in good conditions, respect spead limits and don't drink alcohol when driving. A detail from the Takarekbank in Kiraly street Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

From Budapest you should take the Intercity train from Déli Pályaudvar (Southern Train Station on the Buda side). ...here's the timetable (in English) Make sure to buy both a ticket for the trip and a seat reservation. The trip takes about 2h 40 min, there is usually a restaurant on the train, but check that out before you leave! Timetable for the bus traffic in Pécs. Unfortunately it's only available in Hungarian. 'Éjszakai járatok' means night buses. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

From Budapest simply get on the 'InterCity' at 'Déli' railway station. It is fast and reliable. The public transportation is quite good, but the cab is pretty cheap here too. (use Volán taxi) And man, they are faaast :) Once we had to admit we can't finish the phone call and get down from the second floor before the cabbie arrived. :) Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Pecs is an easy 3 hour train ride from Budapest's Deli train station. Trains run every hour or two. Most of what you will want to see in Pecs is in a small area that is very walkable. There is a city bus system -- but they don't seem to run that often. You will need to take the bus to get to the TV Tower. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Trains depart daily from Budapest's Déli Station; five of these are Intercity trains. The fare is 1,722 Ft ($6.20). On an Intercity train the journey takes about 2 1/2 hours, and you are required to pay an additional 360 Ft ($1.30) for a seat reservation. On a fast train the trip is more like 3 hours, but you don't need a reservation. If you are driving from Budapest, take the M6 south for approximately 3 hours. Theme: Train

We wanted to reach Pecs from Croatia. In Croatia there arent so good road signs so we didnt found the road to Barcs and enter Hungary from Gola. Well this was not so bad because we travelled via many villages of Hungary and Croatia and the roads is not so bad but for a long time you have the sense that you are lost. Anyway the scenery around you is worth the trouble and there is literally no traffic. Theme: Car/Motor Home
