  • If you come to Kinsale by way of Cork Airport, which is only 13 miles away, you can take a taxi to the town, or bus route 249 from the Bus Eireann system (+353 21.450.81.88). The link to Bus Eireann: kbus

If you plan to take the train, connections to all major rail-linked towns and cities in the country can be made from Cork's Kent Station (+353 21.450.48.88). The link to the rail line: isirhrail

If you’re going to rent a car, the journey will only take 20 minutes. Turn right as you leave the airport onto R600 toward Kinsale, passing Riverstick and Belgooly on the way.

Once you’re in Kinsale, leave the car on the lot and walk. There is no better way to see this lovely town other than on foot.

Bus....: Parking is crazy, why not use the bus?
  • Tip Rating:
  • The 249 to Kinsale bus leaves the Bus Station in Cork at regular intervals. Mondays to Fridays they are almost every hour, Saturdays almost every two hours and at 9.30, 12.30, 14.30 and 18.00 on Sundays. The return trips are at roughly the same intervals and details and times of all journeys are posted on the door of the tourist office in Kinsale. The fare is EUR 8.60 for a return ticket and you can buy your ticket from the machine. On Sundays from June 18th to August 13th (excluding August 5and 6) the 14.30 bus goes on to the beach at Garretstown outside Kinsale.

If you do go to Kinsale on the bus and you want to go to Charles Fort, I would suggest asking the bus driver to let you out at the stop before Kinsale and you can get there easily in 20 minutes walking. This means you get to see the fort first and can enjoy a leisurely walk into Kinsale after some refreshments, whereas if you go into the town and have to walk all the way up to Charlesfort and back again, that really is quite a trek.

    Strolling The Streets of Kinsale
  • Tip Rating:
  • The best way to get around Kinsale is by foot. I love to walk all around this beautiful Harbor own and I'm sure you will too. The scenery is gloriious as well as the quaint little shops you will find in the heart of Kinsale. I love talking with a lot of the local shop owners, most of them are very friendly. And with all the wonderful food there, the exercise will do you good!

I took the N27 road from Cork city along the South Ring road, passing Cork Airport to get to Kinsale. It's just under a 30 min drive from Cork to Kinsale.
