    James Fort was constructed between 1601 and 1603. It is a pentagonal shaped fort with a covered walkway leading to the fort. This fort was the harbours main defence until the construction of Charles Fort across the way. It is within walking distance of the town of Kinsale, and you will get wonderful views along the way, and from the fort!

  • Address: Pearce Road Kinsale
  • Directions: Follow Pierce Road through town, past the Trident. Go across the bridge and hang a sharp left and follow to the end and park at the other harbor.

    Here is a photo from inside the fort. Like I said the grounds are immaculately maintained and just look at all those perfect places to take a nap!!!

  • After lunch we drove across the harbor to James Fort and a small beach. We hiked up to James Fort (a ruin - like the castles in Okinawa)

    On the intro page I have a view of James' Fort from a distance, here is a close up view of part of the fort that is located on the point closest to Charles' Fort. The day was nice and there were many sailboats about. I did not make the walk out to James' Fort the day I was there but it looks beautful there, (more nice napping places). I am not sure if there are buses that go out there or not, the walk appears to be a little longer that the trip to Charles' Fort from the city centre. But one I will undoubtedly be making soon!
