 | Dingle The Dolphin Fungi Reviews | 1 - 9 of 9 | | Funghi the Dolphin is a single Doplhin, who decided to stay in the bay of Dingle harbour a lot of years ago and plenty of boats offer cruises to watch it, some even offer to give your money back in case that Funghi will not show up... BUT of course Funghi will show up, it seems to have great fun to watch boats and tourists - that way Funghi became one of the best known tourist-attractions in Dingle town. The boats start to watch Funghi daily between 10.00am and 06.00pm, weather permitting The tours start at the Pier of Dingle's fishingport Prices are 12 Euros for adults, 6 Euros for children under 12 Leave a Comment Address: Dingle, Co.Kerry - at the pierPhone: 066/915-1967 (or 2626)Directions: You may drive your car directely to the pier, where you see a large parking. Dingle town is very charming and you can loose yourself in the nice shops and pubs. Dingle has an Atlantic Bottle-nosed Dolphin called Fungi that frequent the waters around the harbour. Fungi is a huge attraction to Dingle and there are trip boats that will take you out to go see Fungi. Fungi is seemingly very sociable and shows up more often than not. The trip operators even give you your money back if you don't get to see Fungi. Leave a Comment

We probably would not have gone for the touristy boat trip for 32 euros on most occasions. Today however was different. My husband and I had spent the night before in a great B&B in Dingle and woke to a beautiful day. We had no car so we went to the tourist office to inquire about tours of the Dingle Penninsula. There are plenty of tour guides with 8-10 person vans that will take you out for around 15 euro a person but in January, Dingle is not filled with tourists and it is not worth their time to just take out 2 people. So we hung around hoping to find someone to share the tour with but it was not happening. At one o:clock John showed up next door to open the office for the dolphin boat rides. He took one look at me and asked me what was wrong. I explained our predicament and he said he wasn't doing anything and would take us out for 20 euros. So off we went, him being a lovely tour guide, stopping to show us special things, walked down to a very nice beach, showed us the Cranberries old house, etc.... Then he got a cell phone call saying he had to captain the 2 o:clock boat to see Fungi. I'll be there in 10 minutes he said. !!!!!We had been driving for 1/2 hour, how was he going to get back in 10? Errr....by driving 75 miles an hour on narrow winding Irish roads along cliffs? Am I making you nervous Ellen he says. No John not at all. So we get back and John is the captain of the boat going out and it is a warm sunny day, so what the heck? It really was fun. Did we see Fungi? Only about 100 times, that dolphin is a ham. Sure it's touristy -- but then, you ARE a tourist, aren't you? Come on, you know you want to. Climb aboard a EUR 12 boat tour, enjoy the harbor views and wait for Fungi. Don't worry, he's almost certain to be along... in fact, most tours give you your money back if you don't see him. Address: Strand Street across from John Benny's PubPhone: ++353 66 915 1188Directions: Walk along Strand Street until you see the tourist office on your left. The boats leave from the docks next to the tourist office.Website: http://www.dingle-peninsula.ie/attractions.html

For nearly 20 years Dingles most famous resident has been a bluenose dolphin by the name of Fungie. Hes a bit of a celebrity these days and you can take a boat ride out into the bay to catch a glimpse (€8.90 but boat rides are free if he doesn't show although apparently he usually does!) or even to swim with him. You can also catch a glimpse from shore but obviously not as close. Too bad we didn't have time to take one of the boat rides :( Leave a Comment Phone: 066-915 1188

Look closely at this picture and you can see Fungi, the dolphin, in the background. Fungi has now spawned a bit of a tourist industry all of its own. More than 10 years ago the dolphin arrived in the waters outside of Dingle and chose the place as his home. All through the day, he regularly appears: You can swim with him (if you brave the cold waters) or go on a boat trip to see him up close. The organisers of those trips are so confident you’ll be able to see him that they even refund your tickets, if he doesn’t show up. God only knows what will happen to Dingle tourism if he ever dies. Who’s going to buy all those key chains or T-Shirts then? In the meantime: Go out and enjoy the company of this very friendly dolphin. Leave a Comment

I'm torn between putting this item into Tourist trap or Must-See.... For about €10, you can get someone to take you out to see Fungie the dolphin, who settled around Dingle bay a few years ago. The dolphin is used to visitors and is very playful, but theres no guarantee you'll be able to find him every day in the bay. Well, if _you_ were followed around by boats and screeching kids all day... He's the only dolphin in the area, so thats all part of the charm. Unfortunately we didnt have time to go out and see the dolphin during the school tour, as it would have nothing to do with learning Irish (bummer...!) Leave a Comment

Fungi the dolphin is a bit of a legend in these parts. You can see his statue near the bay.

No trip to Kerry would be complete without visiting Fungi the Dolphin in Dingle Bay. Take a boat trip from the main harbour and usually the dolphin will swim up close to the boat. Tip - wear warm clothes. If Fungi is feeling shy the boat will often stay out for a long time waiting for him to show up. No dolphin and you won't have to pay for the trip, which is good but it can be a long trip. Leave a Comment Directions: Book trips on the seafront.
