on November 10, 2006Bars Sarunas is both a bar and a restaurant, situated on Rigas iela near the Victory Monument on Vienibas laukums. (That would be the somewhat phallic monument in the centre of town...:o)
Bars Sarunas has a quite stylish, minimalist interior - but we chose to sit outside in the lovely, sunny weather. The menu was surprisingly extensive - there's a quite good breakfast menu available between 10 and 13, as well as pancakes, salads, lots of appetizers and soups, pastas, pizzas and a nice selection of main courses. Oh, and desserts too... ;o) There are quite a few dishes to choose from for vegetarians.
We were here quite early in the day, and opted for omelettes from the breakfast menu: I had the "Feta cheese, potato and green bean omelette with grilled tomatoes and balsamic sauce" (Ls 2.30) which was served *without* any green beans or potatoes, and with some herb dressing instead of balsamic vinegar. It was still good, though...:o) My friend had the "Spanish omelette with peppers, potatoes, smoked sausage and chilli" (Ls 1.80) - I was slightly envious, as he actually *got* potatoes, and he also got a rather generous splash of balsamic vinegar. :op
On another trip to Cesis we tried the pizzas - which were quite ok, but nothing special. We also had to wait for *ages* for our pizzas to arrive.
