 | Sigulda Off the Beaten Path | Tips 1 - 6 of 6 | | Popular Off the Beaten Path | Other Off the Beaten Path Tips | All Tips (6) We came on the weekend of the Sigulda City Festival, close to the Hotel Sigulda, there were several vendors selling crafts and other things and a field with dance performances. I just missed a shot of a group of older ladies dancing and waving like Queen Elizabeth, wearing pleated silk skirts and brimmed hats. Actually they did remind me a bit of Queen Elizabeth :-) But I did manage a shot of these sweet faced young girls, cheered on by their parents, dancing to a profanity filled Eninem song that provided my surreal moment of the day. The best way to explore Gauja valley and it's sites is on foot - good footpaths along the river and through the forests provide great views on the river and it's small streams, and will take you to the castle ruins and caves in a pleasant way. Even in winter most trails offer good walking, though some stretches can be a bit icy. Leave a Comment

Before going here, I just wanted to say, that here in Latvia you won't find high waterfalls like on other places in Europe. This waterfall, which one can see here, falls from two meters' height and you can get to the waterfall closely. Of course, it's very beautiful. You must go via road A 2 to Sigulda, through it. As you drive out from city (road A 2), you must turn on the first road to the left. You must cross the rails and turn to the right. Before the river you must stop, leave car, and on the left you must follow small river. Leave a Comment

We used off the beaten paths opportunity to hunt for geocaches (look www.geocaching.com). Sigulda have some caches around in interesting places like springs or waterfalls. Leave a Comment

Its a peaceful and restful country side scenery. You can see some cottages with interesting interior design, old farming tools and vehicles. You find an old sauna house exhibition and learn how people used to use sauna bath. You can walk along the parks and small country roads looking at beautiful flowers and trees.
