    It is so nice that there are two longest rivers of Latvia - Daugava and Gauja - near each other, mostly in Riga region.
    It is said, that Daugava is long, wide, but quite silent river, without big stream. Gauja, vice versa, is smaller one, but having big stream.
    You can see Gauja river when crossing bridge on your way to Turaida.

    In Sigulda you should do the Three Castles route. It starts with the cable car to Krimulda, then you walk through beautiful nature and on many steps .... to Turaida.... from Turaida you walk past caves (even the biggest cave of the Baltics!!!) to Sigulda Castle. Really Nice.

    The best place is the Turaida Castle. The entrance fee is 2 Ls. It is a big reserve where you can also walk a lot, and visit the castle and go all the way to the top and enjoy spectacular views of the Gauja River area!

    After the visitors center we headed over to the new castle, built in 1881, the former residence of Prince Kropotkin.

    It didn't appear to be open for visitors, Lonely Planet says it is now used as a sanitorium.

    The Turaida church is a small wooden spired church, built in 1750. The interior of the church has survived and houses a small history exhibit.

    The archbishop's castle at Turaida can be seen from the Knight's Stronghold on the other side of the Gauga valley.

    The estate at Turaida is a mini open air museum with several of the buildings reopened. The buildings they had open on our visit were the smithy, the sauna and the fishery.

    The Sigulda castle ruin dates back to the 13th century. The original castle was built by the Teutonic Order.
