 | Bugibba Off the Beaten Path | Tips 1 - 9 of 9 | | Popular Off the Beaten Path | Other Off the Beaten Path Tips | All Tips (9) Although Bugibba is not far from the capital Valletta (around 13km, meaning less than I do every morning to go to work), the roads are not very good and the busses are going on a low speed. It takes around 45 to 50 minutes from Bugibba to Valletta, but this also has a good part because the road goes along the sea shore and passes near some of the most beautiful maltese towers (see next tips).

Ghallis tower is one of the thirteen towers built by Grand Master de Redin between 1658 and 1659. The tower stands above the shore just east of Ras il-Ghallis (Ghallis point). The tower formed part of the chain of De Redin towers that allowed communication from Gozo to the Knights' base at Grand Harbour. The Tower was restored between 1995 and November 1996.

Qalet Marku Tower, also known as St Mark's Tower, is probably the third of the thirteen towers built by Grand Master de Redin. The price of the building was entirely paid by the Grand Master and was built between March 1658 and July of the following year together with the other twelve towers. During the British period a small room was built in front of the Tower to serve as a guard room but only its foundations remain.

St Paul's Bay is situated in the north east of Malta, 16 km from the capital city Valletta and is one of the ordest seaside resorts. Its name refers to the shipwreck of Saint Paul on the island situated in the bay. Among the places can be visited here are Ghajn Razul, the Apostle's fount, at which the saint is reputed to have quenched his thirst following his shipwreck, the church at tal-Huggiega, the church of the bonfire, marking the site where the apostle shook off the viper into the flames and the church at San Pawl Milqghi, the place where St.Paul was made welcome by Publius, the Roman Governor.

St Paul's Island is one of the three uninhabited islands of the Maltese archipelago and the place where St Paul ship wrecked during his journey from Jerusalem to Rome. He is the one the brought Christianity to Malta and is the Patron Saint of the Islands. On St Paul's Islands, located at the mouth of the bay with the same name, is a huge statue of the saint which can be easily seen from Malta.

Popeye village is near mellieha and is a nice walk from the centre of Mellieha. The village is in Anchor Bay and is still intact from when they made the film here popeye. You have to pay to have a look around with a cafe and bus service also Leave a Comment

This photo was taken in the crossroads of Bugibba from the road of Salini. If you follow the Coastroad and pass Bahar ic-Caghaq the pass Coastline HOtel and then pass Salini (where there are the salt pans) you will find yourself at these crossroads. If you go straight you go up to Mellieha, St.Paul's Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha, Xemxija, Selmun and past Mellieha you will even end up in the port of Cirkewwa and can take the ferry to Gozo from there. At the crossroads if you take a right you will end up in Bugibba. Leave a Comment

I am placing this tip here because Qawra is soo small and did not find a travel page on it and Qawra is part of Bugibba so I thought it is very adapt. In photo number 1 this is the small beach just opposite the Coastline Hotel. Be careful when crossing here and when driving around this area as many accidents happen. The little beach can have some jellyfish so come prepared and also some algae and its not always very nice to swim. Photo Number 2 is taken from the coast road of Bahar ic-Caghaq looking towards Qawra and Bugibba. Photo number 3 is of this little stream at Kennedy Grove which is this picnic area where there swings and a largish area where kids can play and family make picnics in Winter and just before Summer.
