Dancing with Cor(azon)! "Een dans...zoals een liefdesgedicht... Versmelten, In elkaar verdrinken, Zich laven aan de tango, Wegdrijven in de muziek, Dansend, soepel als een panter, Tot het eerste morgenlicht...." Leave a Comment

Cheering to the incoming fourdays-marchers, handing over flowers and supporting the once that barely manage to get to the finish-line. ... and ... Sit down at the Waalkay on a terrace and enjoy the ships float by on the mighty river Waal (the most densely used river in the world!).

Take a look near the Waalbrug to see the river Waal. The Waalkade is a boulevard along the river, with lots of opportunities to eat and go out. At the Waalkade is also the casino and two museums, namely De Stratemakerstoren and Velorama. If you go up the stairs next to the casino. You can take a walk into the Valkhofpark. Once the Valkhof was a mighty castle of as they call him often 'Charle Magne' . Unfortunately there are only ruïns now. A beautiful site on the Waalkade is: www.waalkadenijmegen.nl Restaurants, Bars and other tips are mentioned. There is one problem the site is in dutch.
Going out and have a nice meal in one of the attractive restaurants. Leave a Comment

Nijmegen has roman origins. It was the city of Noviomagus. Later, in the 9th century, Charlemagne settled here and built Het Valkhof, that was also used by Barbarossa.
During the second world war, the old city was heavily damaged. It has taken a long time for the city to recover. Specially the 'low town' near the river is really nice now. Picture: The Valkhof in the snow. Leave a Comment

Take a walk along the riverside, sit on a terrace and watch the ships (and people) go by.
Arriving from the north by train, bus, car or bike, you can see my city in full glory. And then I'm proud and can even get sentimental...

come to nijmegen during the summer festivities, this is when the 4-days marches are held. These marches start on the third tuesday in july, but the festivities around them start the weekend before already. If you come for the sport, the walking: it's four days 30/40/50 km., depending on age and sex. For info about the marches: 024-3655500. Also, Nijmegen normally already has a flourishing evening- and nightlife. The town has many pubs, bars and numerous restaurants: Indian, Greek, Mexican, Turkish, and many other kinds. From the autumn of 2000, you can visit the new shopping street with two levels, called Marikenstraat. Not one of the cheapest shopping streets, but nice to see, specially by it's architecture. Lux is the name of the almost famous movie/film house, the best visited filmhouse of the Netherlands. It is situated near the Marikenstraat, in the center of the town. Don't forget to take a look in Nijmegen's new library. I think it's the most beautiful one I've seen since ages. Nearby Lux and the Marikenstraat. For more culture: museum Het Valkhof. Looks like a swimming-bath from the outside, but is great to walk around in. See you in Nijmegen!
Nijmegen is my hometown. I was born here and I have always lived here. It's my town at the river Waal and I love to see Nijmegen's skyline coming from the north by train or by car over the bridge.
