Nightlife in Leiden

Every Sunday acoustic duo Friendly Fire plays from approx. 16:00 till 21:00 in the Teahouse in park "De Leidse Hout" . Repertoire ranges from Everly Brothers to Nirvana. They have great vocal harmonies, solid acoustic guitar playing. Not too loud, you can easily have a conversation. Admisson free, plus they can do requests. Great music to listen to while sipping a drink and watching the deer in the park.

Whatever you want, mostly casual as it is a park and most of the audience are people taking a stroll in the park.

Since it was Lekkenfest, there's a party at the canal. Free Live Music followed by disco after.

Seen here are Adone and Willem and Leker (I think that's her name, not so sure now).

Club In Casa is the only place in the city that looks like a club.. From the outside and also on the inside.

Thursday is student night with cheesy pop and 70s/80s music. Saturday is more Techno orientated ussually.

The audience is not the best though. Very young (under 20) and on Saturdays sometimes a bit tacky.

The door closes VERY early - you have to be in before a certain time (I think 12.30)

Casual or as dressed up as you like.

This is a great spot on Wednesday nights. It is international student night so many of the international students from all the universities in Leiden go to this bar. There is no dancing but it is still a lot of fun just to talk with everyone from all around the world.

No dress requirements

	LVC: Good clubnights

If you are twentysomething there are only a few places in this city where you can go dance (if you are not in a fraternity that is..). In my opinion, the LVC is the best place to go.

It is an alternative club venue which offers different clubnights and concerts.

The clubnights are different: R'nB, Drum 'n Bass, 70s, Techno, Rock, Pop...
In this place it means that the theme of the night really defines the music - so you should only go here if you are into the music.

I find thursdays the best nights, and saturdays are the worst. Thursdays are ussually pop/rock/70s/mainstream, twentysomething audience and entrance is one euro. Saturdays are ussually R'nB/Drum 'n Bass/Techno, teens mixed with twentysomething audience and entrance ussually around 10 euros.

Very casual. Comfortable shoes:-)

	Nexus Student's Swinghouse: Clubbing with fratboys (and girls)

This place is a small scale club with a nice interior and bar. It is all about cheesy music here.

Club Nexus is known to be the place where all the fratboys (and girls) come. This means lots of ralph lauren polo shirts.

Personally it is not my scene.

Casual but posh.

De Burcht is a nice, spaceous cafe situated in the very heart of Leiden. It's name is borrowed from the fortification on the hill right next to the cafe. It's one of the most beautiful spots in Leiden.

The cafe / bar is actually one of the activities of an art-promoting foundation which organises lectures on literature and philosophy. They give (very) small concerts as well. Quality ... ahum, it varies. But dont worry. The arty stuff is seperated from the drinking area. I'm sure it's politically incorrect statement to make, but sometimes there is no substitute for apartheid.
