Those of you who have been to Russia, (or looked through my pages attentively!;) already know that the biggest part of Russian old architecture is wooden churches and buildings. They are characteristic for the Northern part of Russia, where timber is a cheap and common construction material. There are many samples of wooden architecture in different museums of my country: Kirillov, Kolomenskoye in Moscow (see my Moscow page!), Kizhi in Petrozavodsk (see my Petrozavodsk page), Vitoslavitsy in Novgorod (see Lalique's St.Petersburg page travelogue). And here, in Murom, you see another sample of wooden construction on the territory of Trinity (Troitsky) convent. Leave a Comment Directions: Vladimir Region, City of Murom, Krestianina Square, 3-a

Trinity Convent. Founded in 1642, construction was completed in 1649. On the territory of the monastery you will also see a wooden church dedicated to St. Sergius, which was moved to the monastery in the 60-ies for conservation as an architectural monument. This convent is famous for the relics of St. Peter and St. Fevronia. St.Peter was a prince, and he married St. Fevronia after she cured him from terrible wounds which he got in a battle. They lived happily together till they grew old, when they both took monastic orders, and went to live in monasteries. However, before separating, they agreed that they will die on the same day and they will be buried in the same grave. And it happened so. St. Peter and Fevronia are the patrons of family and marriage. Leave a Comment Directions: Vladimirky Region, city of Murom, Krestyanina square, 3-aOther Contact: As most monasteries, this one wa

BRIDGE (don't know its name, if there is any) You can see this bridge while sailing on a boat, it's very high uphill, iron, thin, curved a bit. It looks like observation place from the river. The view form the bridge is breathtaking and it's worth climbing all the way up there! Leave a Comment Directions: With your back to the river-boat station go a bit rightwards direction, cross a street (with tram rails, if I remember it correctly) and further on between the houses, climb up the hill.
