 | Volgograd Transportation | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | If you're brave, take the train to Volgograd. Don't be a namby-pamby and buy a coupe ticket- go for platzkart instead. For those unaccustomed to Russian trains, platzkart is an open sleeping wagon. The word 'open' may be misleading- what I mean is that there are no separate cabins or curtains. It is anything but spacious! Aside from the fact that you'll save a lot of money, you'll also get more chance to talk to people and learn about the towns you pass through. Picture coming soon! There are several flights to Moscow per day, from DME and SVO. The ticket is RUR 5 800 around (EUR 170) to and back. The airport is not far from the city. Besides in summer there are someflight to Saint Petersburg and other cities of Russia. The city has the railway station in the central part of the city too. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

I flew to Volgograd from Moscow via Volga Airlines. You can also take the train, which is a fun ride. The photo here is one example of what my friend Geoff used to call the 'MiG on a Stick' (here, it's on the banks of the Volga River). There's one of these at the entrance to almost every airport in the former Soviet Union. See how many you find! Leave a Comment Theme: Other
