There are plenty of these around Dover. I am sure they live on the roof of my house!! They make an awful noise most mornings. Watch your food when eating outside too! Leave a Comment

Beware of travelling early morning on the train. Fares are drastically reduced if you plan to travel after 9:30. Leave a Comment

Train travel can be very expensive. If there is a group of you it can pay to buy a network card (£20), which will reduce off peak hours fares by one third and up to 4 adults can travel with the card holder. the network card is valid for a year. Leave a Comment

It was shortly after the tunnel between Dover and Calais had been finished, I came to Dover to go on the ferry, because I had booked in advance. As I had plenty of time left, I thought, I drive to the tunnel-entrance and have a look around and ask for the price of the passage for my motorhome. - It was a rather long way to go there, at the entrance you may show your ticket, if you have one, but they will not give infos, how much it will be to use the tunnel... The worst was, that nobody would believe me, that I am no terrorist, and after a very long discussion with several people of the staff, they opened a gate for me, so that I could go back again. - Because there is only one way to the tunnel, you may only enter the tunnel there, but for the way back, there is a completely different one-way-system and to go from one to the other is very complicated, and some locked doors had to be opened by the staff ! The only warning or dangers I can think of here are being really careful of the traffic near the ports. Traffic coming form France and Europe are used to driving on the right hand side of the road and a lot of them forget we drive on the left :-(. Also beware of pickpockets and camera snachers in the summer season. Leave a Comment

Back in the Middle Ages. Make sure that you don't get involved in a medieval fight ;-) (Hever Castle)

I took the train from London and walked to the Dover Castle complex because my useless guidebook said it was just a 10 minute walk. It was more like 20, and the guidebook neglected to mention that it was up an incredibly steep hill. Walkers take heed!
