Sundial at Bud Miller Park Canada's largest sundial is a located at Bud Miller All Seasons Park. The massive yellow column is the central gnomon (rhymes with Joe-john) to a large horizontal sundial, some 60 meters across. The gnomon angle is set exactly equal to the latitude of Lloyminster and points to true North or the North celestial pole. By averaging the amount of space or the number indicated on the posts where the shadow falls, you can tell the apparent time. The sundial clock reads local apparent time opposed to local mean time which our clocks and watches show. Local apparent time is localized to a particular meridian, in our case, Lloydminster's (110 degrees 0'W) and is also based on the apparent motion of the sun. Leave a Comment
