 | Des Moines Restaurants | Tips 21 - 30 of 35 | | Popular Restaurants | Other Restaurants Tips | All Tips (35) Mondos : Great ambiance is great - the food is modestly priced. 2 can eat for less than $40. Wine list and other mixed drinks availible - I suggest the cholate martini. Steak, Chicken, Calamari, Pasta & great desserts. Out door patio with bar. They also have a live local band that plays on the weekends and at night. The have the best Foccia bread I have ever tasted - they bring you freash bread w/ olive oil and asiago cheese with cracked peppercorns - before your meal. I cant say enough anout the place. all of the above
Simpley Chicken Sandwhich: grilled chicken on foccia bread served with grilled seasoned fries. I am simple what can I say - this is probably one of their more boring dishes. The Art Center Cafe has a limited menu, but it all looked good when I was there. Upscale and delicious - it seems to attract many people in Des Moines who just come for the restaurant. On pleasant days, there is outdoor seating by the reflecting pool; there are about ten tables inside, so if you want to be sure of a table, get here early. Great atmosphere and food. I understand they have a few of these restaurants scattered throughout the U.S. The place is decorated with musical memorabilia.

This is a neat little place downtown. They serve up some of the best Creole/Cajun food that I have had. Don't let the name fool you, there is no "carp" on the menu. When you walk down the steps it feels rustic and that it could be down on Bourbon Street. The best night to go is on Thursday, "crappy beer night". You can get your old fav's, Schlitz, PBR, Old Mil, the list goes on.
All of them, but I would have to say, get the stuffed mushrooms to start with. Just thinking about them makes me hungry. Leave a Comment

Atmosphere is low-key and a bit like the name implies. Food is excellent but the place always does good business and waits of over 2 hours for a table can happen, so plan ahead. Prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. Service is generally very good. You won't have many "kids" waiting on you.
Prime Rib. Huge cuts and hardly any excess fat. Most of the time you don't require any more trimming. You get your money's worth. Some of the best I've eaten in 15 states!!!! Not far from downtown. I and my friends usually went there during lunch. It locates in the Skywalk or you can get in from Capital Square Center exist. They serve Chips dip in tomato sauces before they take the order for free. The price is very reasonable. The food is excellent there too.
Chicken strip Fajita, they bring out grill chicken strip on a hot metal plate with grill onion, red & green bell pepper. Hot soft fajita wrap in a foil paper. The Chimi-chilada/Quesada there are also good, they served with mash bean(good touch on the taste) and salad with avocado and other sauce. Some orders serve with yummy whip cream. This place was so awesome! The whole bar/restaurant was themed like a German pub. It reminded me of the indoor scenes in the Beowulf movie with Angelina Jolie. The food was really great (my husband had the bratwurst and I had goulash). They have a fantastic beer selection (almost all German beers). It's in a really centralized location. The prices were pretty good for the quality of food we received. We parked at the Science Center parking ramp and walked over.
Goulash, thick and hearty with potatoes and a delicious creamy sauce. Bratwurst, came with traditional sauerkraut. Enough food for a farmer. Gift shop in the lobby of the resaurant, which has everything a tourist will ever want from Iowa.
Double-Cut Iowa Pork Chop. It's a pork chop as big as your head! I hear the steaks are great too. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: 11151 Hickman Road (I-80/35 - Exit 125) Urbandale, IA 50322Other Contact: PH: 515/270-6818 FX: 515/270-083
