 | Santiago Metro Reviews | 1 - 10 of 28 | | The Metro is definitely the best way to get around the city here in Santiago. Cheap, clean, frequent and efficient - well, mostly - we managed to be on a train when there was a power failure in the area of the city were were travelling through. Fortunately the train had only just begun to pull out of the station and the last carriage had not gone clear so, once they got a back door open, everyone was able to walk through the carriages and out on to the platform. It was all very orderly and fuss-free. Just as fortunately, we were only one station from our destination. It didn't put us off at all though and we used the Metro to travel all around the place. You can buy multi-ride tickets allowing 10 trips. There are barriers at the entrance to the platforms but not at the exits. Metro stationentrances are distinguished by three red diamonds Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

Santiago's Metro is the most efficient and fast way to go around the city. There are 3 lines numbered 1 to 5 (Lines 3 and 4 are under planning or being currently built). Line 1 goes from Pudahuel -not the airport, though- to Escuela Militar (35 km. to the east). Line 2 goes from Estacion Mapocho -next to the river- to Lo Ovalle, in the southern suburb of San Miguel. Line 5 goes from Santa Ana -an intermediate combination station of Line 2- to Bellavista, in the southeastern suburb of La Florida. The longest trip takes 41 minutes. Ticket price is $ 320/380 - US$ 0,60/0,70 (normal/rush hour), and there's also an electronic debit card that can be recharged and used at a cost of $ 290/330; it's good if you're going to stay a couple of weeks in Santiago and using a lot the Metro. Card itself cost $ 1000 (US$ 1,80) Operating hours: 600 AM till 1100 PM, Monday to Sunday. Sunday fare is reduced price all day, and on Saturdays from 200 PM on. Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

The Santiago subway is something that everyone here is proud. In fact, I've never seen a subway as clean and as safe as this one. There are actually 3 lines where you can move around. The 4th is being built at the moment. The easiest and safest way to go around Santiago is by subway. If you want to explore further in Santigo, buses (micros) are a good option. Leave a Comment

Metro system has three 4 sepate lines that interlink, and further extentions under construction. For destinations along these lines , it´s far quicker than local buses. The Metro operates from 6: 30 to 22:30 hrs Monday to Saturday , sundays and holidays from 8:30 to 22:30 hrs. Clean trains, quiet and frequent, try to not used into the rush hour. Leave a Comment

One of the pieces of infrastructure that has impressed me the most about Santiago is its Metro System. The Metro is fast, frequent, clean and safe. What more could a tourist or expat want in a transport system in a large city? The Metro company is constructing new metro lines at quite a rapid pace after taking 20 years to contruct the two main lines. The pictures below offer a very useful Metro Map and also a picture of the Metro symbol which you will find above all station entrances. The Metro offers one off tickets that you need to purchase at the "boleterias" at each station or if you are staying in Santiago for awhile and will use the metro a lot I recommend buying a Metro Card which costs 1000 CLP and then you pay to recharge it. The cost of each fare is slightly less using the card. The Metro is open from 6:30 a 22:30 Monday to Saturday and 8:30 a 22:30 Sundays and Holidays. The Metro has a different cost depending on the time of day travelling (rather than the distance). From 06:30 - 07:15 hrs.; 09:00 - 18:00 hrs. and 19:30 - 22:30 hrs costs 340 CLP per ride. Between 07:15 - 09:00 hrs. and 18:00 - 19:30 hrs. is the rush hour time and costs 430 CLP per ride. Leave a Comment

The "Metro de Santiago" is the largest metro system in South America. There are 5 different lines that cover most of the metropolitan area and provide easy access to downtown Santiago. The metro is fairly new (the oldest station dates back to 1975 but many stations were added in the past 4 years) and I thought it was rather clean, and felt very safe using it. Tickets are a little less than US$1 (380 or 420 Chilean pesos depending on the time of the day - it's more expensive during peak hours), which makes it a very cheap, fast and convenient way of traveling through the city! Santiago's metro system is great! The metro is very, very clean and safe at all times. It gets you pretty much everywhere you want to go at a reasonable price. The only minus is that the metro is extremely crowded at rush hour. But that also could have been only temporarily because when I was there the transportation by bus (transantiago) just had been reformed and there was a huge chaos. That's also why I do not recommend taking the bus.. it seems to be impossible to understand which bus goes where! Leave a Comment

The subway (metro) system is very clean modern and inexpensive. The cost , one way, is 340 pesos (50 cents US) and covers the entire city. All stops sell tickets until 10:00 PM then you must use ticket vending machines. Most stations have ATM and news stands. Trains run underground and above ground. No need to run for a train, another will be along in a few minutes. Subway maps and guides are conspicuos and plentiful. Theme: Subway/Metro
