 | Nazca General Tips | Tips 1 - 10 of 17 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (17) The Nazca Desert is a high plateau about sixty miles long and five miles wide on the coast of Peru, about a six hour drive south of Lima. At around 1,000 B.C., the Nazca Valley was inhabited by a race of people who developed advanced farming methods that allowed them to build an irrigation system, improved their crops, and expanded the area of land they could farm. Over the next 1,500 years, they also developed outstanding skills in weaving, pottery, and architecture. The Nazca were wiped out after the Spanish conquest, so much of their history was still relatively unknown. Perhaps the most fascinating of their cultural achievements was the creation of a remarkable ground art- the Nazca Lines, with its exact purpose remaining as one of the biggest mystery of mankind. The flight to observe the Nazca Lines was underwhelming to me. Being high up in the sky, the lines seemed so distant despite being clearly visible. The experience was not all that different from watching a TV program about the Lines at home. It turned out to be a "I did that because I was there" kind of experience.
The moment I stepped off the bus from Arequipa at six in the morning, I was crowded by four or five agents from different tour groups, each trying to persuade me to join their tours. It was a terrible feeling to have to react to all the hassles after one of the most miserable vehicle ride I ever had. Leave a Comment

Once in Peru I think you have to visit the lines of Nasca although from the ground there isn´t that much to see. But it´s impressing to see these lines, knowing that there´s still no 100% explanation how and why they are constructed. Maria Reiche, a german mathematic spent all her life in searching and investigating about the lines, one of the ideas some people have is an airport or something like that for extraterrestics......
The special point is: You CANNOT see the geometrical form of all these lines from the ground, they are too big. So....why did human beings construct something they can´t really see at all? Leave a Comment

In this zone you already feel the nearby Atacama desert. Everything is very dry here, that´s why these mummies did exist so many years. Leave a Comment
