Just across the harbour from the wharf there are some interesting rock formations.

The main attraction in Whitianga, the Hot Water Beach.
Basically at certain points in the sea, the water is BOILING hot due to geothermal activity underneath.
You bury your feet down in the sand and all of a sudden your feet are burning!!!
This is heavily visited by tourists (even in Winter) so don't expect to be the only ones here.

Clear turqouise waters, huge rocks to jump off, great photo opportunities!!
