A great chinese restaurant down on the Ilha with an open balcony looking out over the sea. Enjoy the cool sea breeze and all the delicious chinese food on offer. Has a little artisans workshop at the entrance too with a guy working away making all sorts of African crafts. Comandos are the special troops of the Angolan army. Its Association is located in Cidade Alta, near the Palácio Presidencial, and the restaurant located on its premises is open to the general public. Wireless Internet is available in the premises and, for football lovers, two big screens are set up whenever there's any major tournament going on. It seems this is going to be a very popular venue to watch the games of the next FIFA World Cup Food being served is either of typical Angolan or Portuguese cuisine and a whole meal would cost about 1,000 Kwanzas (=aprox. 10 Euros). This is a popular Chinese restaurant in Luanda. Most of the staff are from mainland China. It looks like a typical Chinese restaurant with lanterns and all. It's popular because of the variety of dishes they serve here as well as having authentic Chinese alocholic spirits. There are two Chez Wous in Luanda, I and II, as they have expanded.
Seafood type dishes. The garope fish is well done. Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: IlhaDirections: Shez Wou I is to the left of the bridge as soon as you head towards the Ilha. Chez Wou II is to the right of the bridge.

This was probably the best restaurant that I tried in Luanda...the grub was basically Angolan with the heavy influence of the Country's colonial backer...that's to say the food was basically Portuguese, but was actually prepared in Angola...obviously!!! Anyway, the steaks were good and so was the wine and the place had a good atmosphere... Cabo Ledo is a small curve of pristine beach some distance south along the coast from Luanda. It is on land owned by Kissama game park, and is home to a fishing village and a resturant. While it takes some work to get to, the seafood is fabulous; they literally take your order, then go catch it. This results in a long waiting time (2 hours or so) but with the beach and the ocean, then the tasty food, the wait is well worth it. Caveats. Don't travel alone, as the road down is long, badly paved, and dangerous at night. Sand trucks are a constant danger, as they often dump their loads in the middle of the road. Speeding is common, and be CAREFUL when passing, as Angolans frequently move into oncoming traffic to pass slower vehicles. Compound that with the road conditions and people do get killed regularly. Bring two or more cars, and four wheel drive is a MUST, as the trail from the main road to Cabo Ledo is offroading and impossible when it rains.
I'm not fond of lobster myself, but that is primarily what people order because it is so good, and they are HUGE lobsters. The lobsters come in three sizes (medium, large, huge). I usually get the fish (many kinds, whitefish, sole, grouper) and it is really, really good. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 2 hours south of LuandaDirections: I will need to update this, but there is a turnoff on the main road with a crab sign. Four Wheel drive is NECESSARY, and it is impossible when rainy.

I have a friend who likes to say that wherever you travel to you can always find at least one bar, one church and one hot chick... I think he should add Chinese restaurants to that list as well...Chinese restaurants seem to be everywhere...perhaps it's becuase one in six people on this Earth are Chinese... Here in Luanda, Chez Wou is the Chinese restaurant of choice and what a place it is indeed....a diamond in the ruff so-to-speak...
Chez Wou has all your favorite Chinese dishes, some of which are served up with a local Portuguese flare.... Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Out on the island....

This place is run by a Portuguese descendant and his wife...and judging by the food and photos on the wall, he is an avid fisherman. Like a lot of restaurants in Luanda, the approach is mysterious. From the street, it looks like any other boarded up house. You enter through a metal doorway and walk down a long narrow hallway, pass through a small room with a brick oven and into the dining area. Most times, the owner waits on you personally...
Everything is good here, but definitely try their fish, I have eaten here several times and had the Grouper fillet...whether it's battered and fried or grilled, it's very tasty... Another great dish is the grilled Choco (squid), perhaps the largest piece of squid I have ever eaten... Put a little olive oil on it, some hot sauce and rice and you have a meal... Leave a Comment
