Joe's Beerhouse: Hang out in a cool African Atmosphere
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is practically tradition for tourists to go to. Even us locals always enjoy the Joe's atmosphere. It's an open air restaurant created to give an African "bush" feel.
For those meat and beer lovers this is great. But everyone enjoys it because the menu is big, the tables are huge so it's especially ideal for groups of people who just wanna hang out and be loud and have fun.
Unless you're going to sit at the bar area, it's advisable to book a table in advance.

    Joe's beer house: African taste
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • With great atomosphere and special decoration, it is more than enjoyable place to eat. A lot of foreigners came here to seek real African food, well, I think it's a recommanded place.

bushmen sosatie--for first and last visitors, I think it's good to have all the yammy food in the same plate, where there are kudu, springbok, zebra, crocodile and so on. Although it's kinda expensive than other choices but it really worth it.

  • This is a GREAT place to go, to get away from the noise and enjoy some fantastic barbeque. It has a "bush" setting, giving it a rural/African feel. They even have quadbiking facilities available if you want to do some stress releasing by driving around on dirt/gravel roads.
    I love the tranquil atmosphere.

    Oh, PLEASE BOOK in advance.

The serve freshly baked pot bread...actually all their food is made right there and then. There is no menu, you eat what they have. Generally it will be 3 diffrent types of meat like game, pork and beef. Then they'll have 3 salads with deliciously cooked veggies; Or they'll have no salads but a variety of cooked veggies (deliscious) and dessert. The thing is ALL the food is good!
Yes, they do serve beer and whatever alcohol you might want. Oh and if you're here in the Summer (which is pratically from October to April :) you'll want to have a cold beer :)

I guess by now you'll realise that is you're not a meat eater you might not like it. But, trust me the rest of the food will make it worth your while going.

  • During the week it's a great place to pop by quickly ater work, just to unwind and watch the sun set. During the weekend it's a great place to hang out and have lovely conversations with friends with soothing jazz sounds in the background.

Did I say that it's perfect for watching the sun set? Well, it's perfect for watching the sun set...given the fact that Namibian sun sets are the most beautiful :)

They don't really serve food but have all kinds of stuff that compliment wine drinking, like cheese platters with crackers or sea food platters etc. They also have the most delicious chocolate cake, which is of course my favourite :)

Oh, by the way. You can also book out an entire section for a private dinner or whatever.

Extremely popular restaurant where you can try all kind of game : kudu, springbok, zebra, ostrich, crocodile and oryx. The meat tastes great. For me, one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in Windhoek. It's recommended to book in advance.

NICE - Namibian Institute of Culinary Education: NICE is nice :)
  • Tip Rating:

  • BEAUTIFUL! The designer of this place has to be a genius. This restaurant/bar is divided into so many sections. There's the diner, then there's a pub and bar area, there's a place for those who want to sit around a fire and have drinks...it's absolutely amazing!
It caters for all kinds of settings from hanging out to cozy.

El Cubano: Latin music is everywhere !!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • As usual, I like finding latin spots and see if it's possible to dance. I'd never thought it would be possible in Windhoek but it is ! Well, not many people dance in this Cuban restaurant but anyway, it's a good place to hear some Cuban music and eat Cuban dishes as well.

I have to say it's not the best restaurant we tried but we went there for the atmosphere and not for the food anyway.

    JOE'S BEERHOUSE: EAT AT JOE'S
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • Eat at Joe’s? The name really does not even begin to hint at the delights of this fantastic restaurant. This is a WOW! I rate this as one of the best restaurants in Africa. The compound is full of Lapas (small thatch covered buildings with no walls) and several themes areas. There is a pond and several bar areas as well. The staff are fantastic and nothing is a problem. The menu screams MEAT EATERS WELCOME! Choose from Game dishes or traditional meat dishes. And there’s the beer! Served cold and with a smile every time. This is a lively yet peaceful atmosphere for families and couples. They stay open late for drinkers. If you only spend one night in Windhoek – eat here!

    * There are vegetarian dishes on the menu.

    * Starter:
Chicken Salad with Prawns. Georgeous! Tender chicken with a fresh tasty salad.
    * Main meal:
Bushman Sosatie – the King of meals in Windhoek!
Ostrich, Crocodile, Zebra, Kudu, Chicken with Salad & Fritters. It’s surprising how good Zebra tastes. No wonder lions eat them! This is served with several side sauces on a wooden cutting board so you can mix and match tastes. Delicious!

O PORTUGA RESTAURANT: PORTUGUESE & ANGOLAN DELIGHT
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This place is always busy and the staff are slow. It’s a shame because the food is excellent. Just give the people smoking at the next table a nasty look and they usually pack it in. This restaurant does superb food; you cannot take that away from them. You can get a peek at your fish (pictured) before they do their magic on it. Ingredients are fresh and tasty and even the economical wines are good quality. If you are in Windhoek for 2-3 days, stop in for a great meal. The menu is massive and varied. Plenty of vegetarian options as well.

I had the Salad Niçoise for a starter (pictured) followed by an Angolan Fish Dish (also pictured) washed down with some red wine and a cold draft beer.

Joes Beerhouse: Beer as in Germany
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Fresh Beer from the Tap, lots of Wild on the Menue like: Kudu ribs, Springbock, Crockodile and Ostrich etc.
The portions are very big, too.

The Decoration is worth a look, too. It is very rustical, wherever you look there are things from the fondation of this country. Wooden boxes and buckets, ...

Try the Oryx steak or the Spareribs!
Do not forget to order some local beer with it. It is very good.
