 | Wasaga Beach Reviews | Tips 1 - 3 of 3 | | We had no money, no brains, lots of guts, lots of needs, and we slept on the beach. My buddy drove a red '65 Barracuda, and I owned a Mini Cooper 'S.....with the little 10" wheels, so we proceeded to park about 10 feet apart, and attached a rope from one car to the other, and then threw blankets over the line. Formed a wall, a sloping wall, but a wall never-the-less, and set up camp behind it. We scrounged behind the dumpster down at the gas station, and used folded boxes for a mattress, and slept under the stars, with the mosquitos. We lived like kings all week, until the weekend, when we were asked to break camp by the OPP (police). Camping was not allowed on the beach, but our arguement was that we were on the fringe of the beach, in the scruff so to speak, not actually on the beach proper. And, as far as no open fires, we dug a pit, and surrounded it with rocks and mesh, and parked our cars strategically to provide a windbreak (and obscure it from the road). "It wasn't in the open officer...." we attempted to negotiate, discussing our cooking facilities. Ahh, the young are so stupid....
Our accomodations were the finest to be found 'within twenty feet'. Open air, a short jog to the outhouse, and a garbage pit for our empties. (beer was thought to provide protection from the mosquitos, rather like Deet, but tastier) No better life....then. Memories are made up of stupid, stupid things that you've done over the years, and partying at Wasaga Beach in the summertime was one of those stupid things we did. We even invited a couple of guys who rode past on motorcycles to join us, little did we know that they belonged to an affiliate of the Satans Choice, an outlaw motorcycle gang from that era. Their buddies showed up a little later, and, I'll tell you, our usual 'free spirited' conversation held around the campfire, changed somewhat as the night wore on, and on, and on......Not a good way to blend with nature. Please understand, I never stayed 'here', but I dreamt (as if I slept), that someday, someday, I would.....
Cross ventilation, for the cool evening breeze, comfortable seating, a lounge in the back room, front seats, which had fold-down backs......an elevated view, you have to sit in a mini to understand. We would string clotheslines from one vehicle to another, and form a tent-like affair. We preferred the 'open air' experience to sleeping 'INDOORS'.
Back to nature....that was our theme, being dumb also had lots to do with it, as did being a teenager. For the life of me, I can not understand why we never brought a tent !!!!
