Stroll around the quiet gardens - the only noise coming from the resident peacocks! A mini-zoo will amuse young & old alike. Look out for the displays of azulejos dotted around the gardens, in particular the ornamental pond (complete with lion statue & friendly ducks!) close to the entrance. The cobble designs found covering the ground all around Lisbon extend to neighbouring towns too. A beautiful example of traditional "Calçada Portuguesa" can be seen on the Town Hall sqare in Cascais town centre. This area also has fine examples of tile designs on walls of buildings (azulejos) & buildings of fabulous architectural interest. Leave a Comment Address: Cascais town centre

When I visit somewhere I always find myself looking around above eye level. Probably because I like balconies, rooftops, architecture & buildings in general! Cascais has a lot to offer in this respect. My pictures show the sort of things I mean. Leave a Comment

The Tower of S. Sebastião now is the Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum , date of the beginning of century XX and was ordered to build for the aristocrat Jorge O'Neil. It is a notable example of the romantic architecture, the Tower of S. Sebastião fascinates for the mixture of styles. The Museum-Library of the Condes de Castro Guimarães officially was inaugurated the 12 of July of 1931, having been during wide years only the existing one in the Cascais region. Leave a Comment

The Cidadela or the Fort of Cascais is dated from 16th century and it was built to protect the Bay of Cascais. It is part of a whole line of fortresses along the Tagus River that were built to protect Lisbon from being invaded. From there you can appreciated a lovely view. Leave a Comment

At first I thought this was just a beautiful old mansion. In fact this palace is the Counts of Castro Guimarães Palace. It was donated to the city in 1924 and turned into a museum. Outside the museum, where this photo was taken from, is a beautiful semi-secluded beach. Although a bit dirty (I probably wouldn't swim in the water here), it is a nice place to stray away from the crowd and relax. Leave a Comment

There are a few very pretty small beaches that can be found at Cascais. These are fairly close to each other & all have clean, golden sand. Just a stones throw from the town centre, so you can easily spend some time on a picturesque beach soon after a meal or shopping trip! The beaches may be small, but there is enough room to find yourself a quiet corner & maybe doze off for a while in the sun too! Leave a Comment

Just crossing an old bridge you have this astounding view, a gorgeous house, the sea and a lighthouse. I don’t know if this building is a public building or from some family, but sure deserves a good pic, its architecture is beautiful and its gardens. Leave a Comment
