The most eye-catching building
in Durbuy

On a rock at the banks of the Ourtheriver a castle was constructed by the Count of Luxembourg somewhere in the 14th century. Durbuy and its castle had to serve as a defense town against eventual aggressions of the mighty neighbor, the Prince-bishopry of Liège. It's the most eye-catching building in Durbuy and now belongs to the family d'Ursel. It was renovated and reconstructed several times.

Beautiful old houses in
the alleys of Durbuy

Durbuy is within the Belgian Ardennes a must see activity on itself. Pretending to be the smallest city in the world (which it no longer is since 1977 when it fusioned with the neighboring villages and if it ever was it cannot be proven anymore). It is situated at the winding Ourthe-river. It was founded in the 11th century. In the 14th century Durbuy was granted city rights by Count John of Bohemia and was always in conflict with the bishop of Liege. Because of it's safe situation in the valley of the Ourthe and it's actual insignificance, it was not many times the focus of attack.

This place has so much to offer inspite of its size. In the summer, don't just sit around. Try one of the packet of activities offered in the area such as horseriding, kayakking, hiking, etc.

In the winter, get in touch with the Tourist Info as to where the best place to ski is.

In the sleepy fall, enjoy watching the leaves change its color.

In spring...this town lives! The city is ornamented with flowers.

La Falize, a strangly shaped
rock

Behind the church of Durbuy one meets a strangly shaped rock that is known as "La Falize". The earth / stone layers are bended in regular half circles as if the rock is chopped of like a piece of tree, showing it's yearrings.

DURBUY ARDENNES...

Ever heard of DURBOYSE ?????

That is the special beer that comes from a brewery in DURBUY....

I tried it and must say: yes, it is really fine....

and see in the photo: places galore to have a nice drink, lunch, dinner or a snack and especially during the weeks before CHRISTMAS IT IS GREAT BEING THERE: still more specialities for the festive days....

I visited in October and it was great!! and very atmospheric as well!
