Salamis Bay Hotel is outside the city, but it is only a 10-min drive away. And here, you find again a beautiful sandy beach and relaxing atmosphere. It's about a 30-min drive (45km) from the Ercan airport.

Palm Beach Hotel is only 5 min from the old city. It's next to Maras (the ghost town that's been closed down after 1974), and it has a pleasant sandy beach.
The distance to Ercan airport is 50km.

i worked in this hotel for 3 yrs with a loverly family which own the hotel.
This hotel is great for familys and couples,the son of the family has a great sence of humour and hosts a wide range of entertainment.
Theres quiz and bingo, standup comedy, movie nights, barbeques, well theres something for everyone.
The staff are great and will make your holiday a memorable one.
The resturant serves quality food by brilliant chefs

The Palm Beach overlooks the Mediterranean and is situated close to the 'Green Zone' (no man's land between the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus and the (Greek Cypriot) Republic). While clean enough, I would say that it is in desperate need of some tender loving care. The room we stayed in was rather tired and the bathroom was more so (the water from the sink tap only came out at a trickle, for example; tiles, needed regrouting; etc). Again, everything was clean enough, but at £62 per night (approx $120) I was not very impressed. The breakfast was OK, but the orange juice was only some sort of diluted solution/powder and cooked options were pretty limited (ie, only scrambled eggs).
The dining room staff were helpful enough, but the receptionists did not exactly fall over themselves. We were met by a fairly miserable man who checked us in and that was it. It was only after we left we discovered there was a gym and a Turkish Bath - no information from reception or in the room was provided to this effect.
It's not a bad place, I just cannot see how it warrants five stars (even taking into account the often optimistic Turkish star system - you generally need to take off one star to get a decent comparison to NW European standards.) At BEST, I would suggest three stars and, thus, the price tag is very hard to justify.

Salamis Bay Conti Resort Hotel is overpriced and overrated. However, the sea is very nice. I have swum many kilometers and enjoyed the undersea rocks and fish around the hotel. You can swim straight out into the sea about a half a kilometer, and the water is clear so you can see the rocks 5 or more meters below the surface. I've seen some sea turtles hanging out in the grasses on the rocks about 7 meters below the surface.
Typical of Turkish culture, while service may be good superficially there can at times be a lack of organization and efficiency at almost all levels. For example, at Salamis Bay Conti you may, like I did, run into a rude / surly taxi driver if you park your car in one of the parking lot spots. The hotel does not mark those spaces--one is somehow supposed to know. Typical Turkish mentality is top-down dictatorial, which can make systems inefficient when the person at the top is an idiot (not an uncommon characteristic in any culture).
As an American who has studied the Cyprus issue, it was obviously the Greek Cypriots who started the fight and are currently the main obstacle to reunification of Cyprus. Historically, it was particularly the Greek Cypriot terrorist organization ENOKA which was trying to unite Cyprus with Greece and disenfranchise the Turkish Cypriots. It was the Greek Cypriots who overthrew the pre-1974 bipartite (Greek & Turkish Cypriot) government. Furthermore, I have Turkish Cypriot friends who were rounded up, on the town football field, threatened with annihilation, only to be rescued because UN representatives told the Greeks that Turkish warplanes circling above would make them pay dearly. In short, Greek Cypriots have many stories to tell about Greek Cypriots murdering and terrorizing Turkish Cypriots. The Greeks were more powerful and there were massacres.
