Nador hotel
  • Tip Rating:
  • The famous Nador hotel is situated on the eastern part of the Szechenyi ter, right opposite to the Gazi Pasha Hassan Mosque. Originally it was the parish office but in 1846 it was turned into the hotel. In 1902, the old building was pulled down and the new was built with more rooms and more luxury.
Recently, as you can see on the picture, the whole building is under the major reconstructions.

    Ferencesek street
  • Tip Rating:
  • My favourite street in Pécs is Ferencesek street which leads from Széchenyi square to Kórház square. If you walk along this street towards Kórház square you reach the Franciscan Church in the end of the street, after which the street itself was named. Like Király street this street is a pedestrian precinct with lots of shops on both sides.

Zsolnay Memorial fountain right in downtown Pecs, Only steps away from Szechenyi Plaza. This beautiful fountain has four sides and four, greenish bull heads. Erected to the memory of Vilmos Zsolnay, member of the legendary Zsolnay Family, Former owners of the Pottery / Porcelain factory in pecs. This monument / fountain was built in 1912, but only erected in 1930 and it survived the Second World War. A beautiful piece of genuine art.

    City hall of Pecs
  • Tip Rating:
  • The City Hall can be seen from the main plaza, Szechenyi Ter, and it is a beautiful building, inside and out, especially at night, when it's nicely lit and and you see the traffic and people walking by it. The building itself is 100 years old and has been professionally renovated. The firs City hall was erected here in the 19-th century but exploded and this was built in it's place.

Király Street - Tha walking, mediterranean street
  • Tip Rating:
  • Király street is the pedestrian precinct of the city. The street was named Király street in 1864 in honour of József Király, who was bishop of Pécs from 1807 to 1825. In 1945 it became Kossuth Lajos street, but today the street bears the name Király again. In this street one can see many historic buildings and famous houses. The tables of the taverns in the street and the tunes played by street musicians make the main street an atmospheric part of the city.

    Visiting the four tower basilica

  • One of Pecs's most famous and oldest architectural marvel. This is also the home Church for the Arch Bishop of Pecs. When I visited this place, I wondered hours inside it. There is so much detail and history in and around this place. The basilica is located inside the city wall which was built in the 14-th century in order to protect Pecs from the Turkish, Ottoman army. The basilica itself was erected in the 11-th century, First with only two towers and later, in the 12-th 14-th and 16-th century additions completed this beautiful building. Inside there is not an inch left without detail. The basement used to be a meeting place for high ranked priests and bishops, including Ferdinand.

Please wear appropriate clothing, when visiting this place and also try staying quiet, as some times people pray inside. Cameras are allowed and I thing flash is also allowed, but I tried not to use flash in the main hall. You need at least 2, 3 hours to properly observe everything in this place.

    Zsolnay fountain
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vilmos Zsolnay memorial fontain of glazed pyrogranite, stands in front of the Church of the Good Samaritans. The fountain, erected in 1930 and designed by Andor Pilch in Art Noveau style, was a gift of Miklos Zsolnay (the Zsolnay porcelain) to the town.

    The Cathedral
  • Tip Rating:
  • The huge Cathedral of St. Peter dominates the old core of the town and whole Pecs. With its four bell towers it is unique and very attractive construction. This picture was taken from the Calvary hill which offers magnificent panoramic view of the city.

    The bath of pasha Memi
  • Tip Rating:
  • The bath domes used to be an inevitable component of the Turkish townscape. The Turkish bath was not only a place for cleaning the body but also an important centre of social life. The great Turkish traveller Evlia Celebi claims that there were three baths in Pécs in the second part of the 17th century - the baths of Memi Pasha, Ferhad Pasha and Kassim Pasha - which all have been either partly or entirely destroyed. The bath of Ferhad Pasha disappeared very early, only the basement walls have been found. The bath of Memi Pasha was pulled down in the 1880s, but it was excavated and restored in 1963 together with the fountain, which used to be inside.

The road of the Martyrs of Arad
  • Tip Rating:
  • The name of Aradi vértanúk street (the road of the Arad martyrs) preserves the memory of those thirteen martyrs who died in the war of liberation, which succeeded the revolution on March 15, 1848. The pedestals on the upper promenade were made for the statues of the martyrs of the 1848/49 revolution and war of liberation who were executed in Arad in retaliation.
